Position Type: Nutrition Date Posted: 10/10/2024 Location: Genesee Intermediate Job Title : Assistant Cook - Child Nutrition Job Summary : The Assistant Cook provides support in the preparation and serving of quality food to customers in an efficient, caring and pleasant manner. The Assistant Cook assists the Head Cook and other staff with food preparation, planning, and maintenance of a clean and sanitary work environment. Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to) : Assists with food planning and preparation as directed. Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen areas and equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary requirements are met. Sets up and breaks down serving lines. Operates necessary Child Nutrition and point of sale equipment. Addresses student issues and questions in a sympathetic and confidential manner. Ensures that food safety standards are met. Assists with ordering of supplies as directed. Assists with the storage and safe-keeping of supplies as directed. Ensures that student meals meet USDA meal pattern requirements for reimbursement. Completes accurate production records following MDE and departmental standards. Counts money, processes checks, makes change and completes related reports in a timely and accurate manner. Serves students using accurate measuring and portioning techniques. Fills in for the Head Cook or other staff during absences to ensure continued operation of services. Attends professional development opportunities as directed by the Executive Director, Center for Countywide Programs and or Child Nutrition Manager. Consistently models Win-Win leadership. Other Duties : Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications : Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Recognized Food Safety Manager Certification such as "ServSafe" or equivalent according to the Genesee County Health Department desired. Experience: Experience with quantity food preparation and service preferred. Skills/Other: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, electronic and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively present information to a diverse audience. Ability to comprehend and complete basic business math including measurements. Ability to perform these operations using units of US currency and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to calculate per serving ingredient quantities based on standardized recipes. Ability to forecast servings based on historical data and current trends. Ability to problem solve in ambiguous situations. Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to lead and set an example for staff members. Ability to problem solve and improvise under adverse conditions, such as equipment failure. Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for lifting and moving heavy equipment and materials, repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability. Demonstrate ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other staff. Maintain and ensure safe and well-being work environment for all staff. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Works successfully as a member of the team. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Ability work a flexible day, work week, and work year. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
